Eco-Committee News

Who we are?

Eco-Committee is made up of a group of children who meet every week with Miss Bracken to discuss new ideas and projects.

One Planet Conference in County Hall

Miss Bracken & 5 children from our ECO Committee attended the conference on 'One Planet'. It was very interesting and the children had a fantastic day. Did you know that Cardiff is a '3 Planet City'? We didn't either!! This means that if the people of Cardiff keep living like they do now using up natural resources and creating waste we would need to live on 3 planets like Earth to sustain this! Shocked at this fact the children of the ECO committee are on a mission to do something about it.

We learnt how to make a 'Bug Hotel' and how to make a delicious healthy salad in recyclable containers.

We will report back in September our action plan for the school year & with ideas on how you can help make Cardiff a '1 Planet City'!

The Eco committee has reformed with some old and new members.

All the children have good ideas that we will update you about soon.

The children have started to monitor the amount of waste generated in their classes and have allocated friends to act as light and screen monitors in class to reduce the electricity usage.

The children are really keen to attract more butterflies and bees to the garden for next summer and are busy researching the types of plants that would be good.

We now think that the bee logo would be good to use for our new Eco code and once that is finished we will put it onto the website.

Some of the committee members had a great day at the really rubbish show in the city hall.

They learnt about recycling and reusing and how to create healthy suppers from simple ingredients.
