Flight of the Bumblebee
This week you are going to do some moving to a piece of music that was written a very long time ago.
Have a look at this video. The music is called ‘The Flight of the Bumblebee’ and was composed in 1899 by a man called Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
Look at how the bee moves its wings and flies from flower to flower. The music sounds fast and has lots of notes to sound like a flying bee.
We are going to use this music to help us move. You’ll need a space where you can run around safely and listen to the music.
Before we start, you need to check your bee body is working.
Stretch out those wings and give them a wake up shake. Shake them up high and shake them down low.
Now get those legs moving, start slow for a count of ten then move faster for ten.
Now we want you to move for the whole time that you hear the music. As soon as you press start, you need to start moving fast like a bee and keep going until the music stops.
Ready … steady … GO!
Well done! Take a moment to get your breath back.
Now this version is a faster version! Can you move even faster?
Brilliant! Now stretch your wings out slowly to give them a break. Stretch up to the sky and then down to your toes. Take some deep breaths and slow your breathing down.
Well done Brilliant Bumble Bees!
Proud to be ME!
In this activity, we are going to think about feeling ‘proud’.
Being proud means feeling happy for yourself or someone else for doing something.
We feel proud of you all for adapting to learning at home while we can’t be with you in school.
Have a look at this video.
What does Arthur Timothy feel proud about?
Arthur Timothy felt proud to be an architect.
When you make your bug hotel this week, you are being an architect.
You are using maths to think about shape and size, science to think about the materials that you are using, and art design skills to think about what the bug hotel looks like. Wow!
That’s a lot of skills - you should feel proud of what you have done.
So what do you feel proud of?
Have a think about the things that you can do well.
Can you think of 5 different things that you are proud of?
Maybe you are proud that you can read, or proud that you can count in 2’s.
Maybe you feel proud that you are kind to people in your family.
Now log into your Purple Mash account to access your 'I am Proud' 2Do to tell us all about what you are proud of.
There are prompts on the left hand-side of the screen if you need help with some ideas.
We can't wait to hear about the wonderful and amazing things that you are proud of!
