The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson

Talking Together...

Having shared the book, talk to your child about the story. Below are examples of the types of questions that we use in Nursery. The questions require a developing level of understanding so please don't expect your child to be able to answer all of the later questions, especially if they are not so familiar with the story.

Talk through the questions they find more challenging remember to find pictures in the book to illustrate the ideas you are talking about.

Pages 3-4

(Point to the fox) What is this?

Show me the claws.

Show me the mouse.

What did the fox do?

An owl is a type of bird. Can you think of another bird?

Gruffalo Friend - Purple Mash 2Do Activity

What an interesting and unusual monster the Gruffalo is! After the mouse tricks him at the end of the story he runs off back into the woods. What we don't hear about in the story are the Gruffalo friends that live in the woods with him.

Talk to your grown-up about your ideas. What do you think the Gruffalo's friends are like? Where do they live? What do they like to do together? What do they like to eat? What language do they speak? What sounds do they make? We're sure you'll have lots of fantastic ideas. You might like to draw a picture of the Gruffalo and his friends.

For this 2Do we would like you to imagine you are one of the Gruffalo's friends. Ideas to think about ... What is your name? Where do you live? What do you like to do with the Gruffalo? What are you good at? What do you like to eat?

This is a MashCam activity! As you found out in Jungle Week, these are great fun because you get to be the star of the show. Use the camera button in the top middle of the screen to take a photo of yourself. Then use the + and - buttons on the top left to resize your face so it fits perfectly in the monster character cut out. Don't forget to reposition your photos so that it fits in the space. Will we be able to recognise you! We're looking forward to hearing all about you. Ask your grown up to type your ideas in the speech bubble box. Then use the red sound button on the top right to record yourself saying hello. Will it be 'hello' in a monster voice or 'hello' in a monster language ... or maybe both! We're looking forward to seeing you and hearing you!
