2D Shapes

We start with recognition of circle, square, rectangle and triangle. Then introduce other 2D shapes.

Remember to repeat, repeat, repeat the names of the shapes to help your child to learn and remember them.

  • Go on a shape walk around your house - what shapes can you find?
  • Cut out some simple shapes using coloured paper. Can you and your child use them to create a picture?
  • Use the square/circle/triangle face of building blocks dipped in paint to print shape pictures.
  • Can you describe the properties of a shape and help your child to work out which it is - I'm thinking of a shape with four corners (vertices) and four sides, all the sides are the same length. What is my shape?
Using the ingredients, match them to the similarly shaped pizza base.  Can you make more ingredients of the correct shapes?
