Spelling

As shared with you last week we have now come to the revision part of the phonic sounds in Phase Three. Again, this week's spelling list include a mix of words that use all the different sounds covered as well as the new high frequency words given this week.  If you find that your child has difficulty with any of these sounds or high frequency words to date please continue to practise spelling other words using those sounds in order for your child to make progress.

This week's suggested spelling list:

chap

ship

thin

took

pain

coat

soon

tight

turf

sear

This week's High Frequency word list:  (High Frequency Words Set 14)

her

Blending and Segmenting sets -  At this point within the phase there are no new blending and segmenting sets as your child has been given all the new sounds as explained within the phonics page this week. For the remaining weeks of Phase 3 we ask that you use all the sets given to date and use them in their usual way, picking out first any sounds in particular that your child has had difficulty in learning. There is more information on blending and segmenting within the guidance document for parents in Letters and Sounds Phase 3 (see phonics) should you need it.

High Frequency Word Flashcard sets - these are also designed to be cut up and used as flashcards to help teach your child by recognition the high frequency words. Your child needs to be able to recognise these independently, without sounding out.

As well as using the flashcards you can support your child to practise their spelling words using 'Look, Write, Cover, Check' as they have been throughout Year 1.
