CROESO I FLWYDDYN 1 / WELCOME TO YEAR 1

Everything is red in Year One:- the carpet, the chairs, and the tables! We are becoming increasingly  independent learners and have our own trays with our names on.  We have engaging and exciting topics to explore such as Over the Rainbow, To Infinity and Beyond and Mad About Minibeasts, can you guess what they’re about?   The classroom is split into learning areas to explore such as the literacy area with a writing table and cosy book corner. We also have a numeracy area where the children have the opportunity to reinforce their maths skills, construction and block play and a creative area. 

We love our outdoor classroom which has  been also zoned into different areas.  Here we can work and play collaboratively with our friends from all 3 classes. We enjoy exploring with sand, water, paints, chalks and construction materials, we tend to our little flower and vegetable patches and develop our numeracy and literacy skills.

At break times we play in a bigger playground with the Year 2 children and we use the field in the summer. We also enjoy hunting for minibeasts in the forest school area and find out about healthy eating by visiting and helping to maintain the kitchen garden.  

We have planned an exciting visit to Cosmeston for pond dipping and to link up with ZooLab to extend our knowledge of minibeasts.  Will you be brave enough to pet Ronnie the T-Rex when  Ranger Chris from Dinomania visits during our Stomp Chomp Roar topic?

We enjoy listening to, and reading stories and can choose our own reading books – every day if we want to! 

We enjoy going into the small hall for drama, our favourite is participating in the quest to find King Arthur in our Tales From Wales topic! We learn about a healthy lifestyle in our Alive and Kicking topic and have regular exercise during both our indoor and outdoor games.   For games everyone wears trainers, dark coloured joggers, a plain white t-shirt and a warm sweatshirt/hoodie and for PE we wear black shorts and a white t-shirt. 

We include a wide range of IT equipment into our learning and by the end of Year 1 we can all log in and out of our Purple Mash, Active Learn and Hwb accounts independently.
